President’s Message Hello to all of our members! I’d like to welcome you all to a new fiscal year with the San Diego North County Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (SDNCIMA). My name is Marna Vaughan and I have the privilege to serve as President this year. Membership is the focus of the board this year. We are looking to increase the value of your membership in the Institute of Management Accountants. We will do this by working to better educate companies and the general public about our organization and the professional designations that we offer. We offer a relaxed networking environment for job seekers, employers, students and those maybe looking for someone to bounce ideas off of. We have a mix of coastal and inland meeting locations to allow you to get there easier from your office or back to your home. In response to feedback (both verbal and by large attendance), we have added more behind-the-scene tours for this upcoming year. We have speakers from some major companies speaking about timely topics as well as some fun planned, too. Get involved and come to the meetings and the training that we offer. We will always make room for additional people to serve on the board, give presentations to organizations about the IMA, help out or offer ideas for community service. The better name recognition IMA has, the more your membership value increases. Are you a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified in Financial Management (CFM)? If you are, congratulations on your accomplishment. Additionally you have helped increase the business community’s awareness of the IMA. If not, there’s no time like the present to start working on it. We can direct you to study materials, study groups, or seminars to help. I will be working towards my CMA designation this year, maybe you should think about it, too. I hope to hear from you or see you at one of our meetings this year.
